Background of the Study
In democratic societies, political parties play a pivotal role in shaping electoral outcomes by mobilizing voters, influencing political engagement, and determining the focus of political campaigns. Kano Municipal Local Government Area (LGA), Kano State, with its significant population, is a key electoral battleground in Nigeria, with political parties seeking to strengthen their structures to mobilize voters effectively. Political party structures—comprising local party branches, leaders, campaigns, and organizational frameworks—are essential tools for enhancing voter participation and ensuring electoral success (Ogunmodede & Olorunfemi, 2024).
While voter mobilization strategies have been studied broadly, there is limited research on how specific party structures in Kano Municipal LGA contribute to voter turnout and engagement. This study seeks to investigate how the structures of political parties within Kano Municipal LGA influence voter mobilization, focusing on local party organization, leadership roles, and grassroots strategies (Oluwaseun & Akintoye, 2023). Understanding these dynamics can provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of political party strategies in mobilizing voters and ensuring robust participation in elections.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Although political parties in Kano Municipal LGA employ various strategies to mobilize voters, the relationship between party structures and voter mobilization remains insufficiently understood. This study will assess how different organizational structures within political parties affect voter turnout and participation, with a focus on the local context of Kano Municipal LGA.
